These eight core areas serve as the primary theoretical basis for the examination. It is through these areas that the CPCE is associated with accepted professional standards. Of the 20 items per section, 17 will be scored; the remaining three will be pretest items that are not identified to the student. The purpose of imbedded pre-testing is to generate actual score performance data on items. This allows CCE to select items for future test construction that have the most desirable psychometric attributes. Scores for each section and a total score will be reported for each student. The CCE will provide statistics on the program's students as well as national data.

The CPCE study guide reviews below are examples of customer experiences. I passed the Praxis test well above the passing score on the first try, and spent one full day studying the day before the test, using Mometrix materials. I passed the CPCE exam after using this book to study for that test as well. Its condensed format makes studying this book feel actually doable, as opposed to some of the other study guides that feel so overwhelming. These study guides are broken down into need-to-know information, without the extra fluff.

  • Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination | CPCE

Over graduate schools training counselors are now using this exam. The exam is typically used as an exit requirement to obtain a degree or as a tool to prepare students for the National Counselor Exam NCE. Since many states use the NCE for licensure, many students can also use the NCE results for that purpose later after they have graduated and accrued the required professional counseling hours under supervision. NCE questions are more likely to be application oriented and based on practical experience. The CPCE has questions with 20 questions in each of the eight content areas. Each university graduate program that uses the CPCE sets its own cutoff score for passing. Some universities may supplement the CPCE with other written or oral exam requirements for their students.
